Beards and Booty

Roll your dice to send the other pirate captains to Davy Jones’ locker!

Dice-rolling and combat

What is Beards & Booty?

Many tides ago, the seas shook to the sound of cannon fire, the roar of Captains bellowing orders and the creaking of unfurled sails. The Golden Age of Piracy was a search for freedom, wealth, and glory…

But who amongst these fine figures of fortune was the greatest of them all?

Print your pages, grab your dice, and choose your markers as we set sail…

How to play

Each player needs a printed sheet and a couple of markers (to track your Reputation and Gold). You’ll also need 5 dice to play.

On your turn, roll each die up to three times. Aim for the combinations on your player board (they’re different on each one) to damage your opponent’s Reputation, boost your own Reputation, or collect Gold coins to take special actions.

Win by being the last Pirate with any Reputation.

What do I need to play?

The print-and-play file will have:

  • 6 Player Sheets for the 6 unique characters to play.
  • The Code – the rulebook and play guide for Beards and Booty

Each Pirate needs one Player Sheets and two markers* – one for Reputation and one for Gold – and 5 Dice. If you don’t have enough dice for each player, you can always pass the 5 dice to the player whose turn it is.

*In true pirate fashion, you can use whatever you have to hand/ hiding at the bottom of your pocket for your markers.

How many players is it for?

Beards and Booty is a game for 2-4 players. You can certainly play with more people – as many as you like – but the more players you add, the longer you will be waiting or your turn to come back around!

Since there’s a bit to read and some tactical play, we recommend players be 8 and over. Two-player games last around 10-15 minutes, while four-player games go around 20-30 minutes.

Is each character different?

Every character is unique. While they have similar dice patterns to match, each Player sheet has different dice faces in their patterns and their own skills.

I recommend trying each character and seeing which one matches your playing style!

Are these Letter or A4-sized sheets?

Both! Just like we did with Spies, we’ll have Letter and/or A4-sized PDF’s available for each language.

What are Skills?

As a Pirate you need your wits, cunning and unique Skills to not only survive, but to rise above the crew and achieve glory and fame!

In Beards and Booty, each character has three Skills at the bottom of their Player Sheet. To use these Skills on any of their turns, a player must first gain an amount of gold as reward for matching one of the more challenging patterns.

Skills range in power and cost. For example, a simple Skill – such as re-rolling one of your dice a fourth time instead of the usual three – will only cost you one piece of gold. However, taking all of the gold from your opponent will cost you three pieces of gold!

We recommend trying out all of the characters and their skills to see which one suits your style of play.

Is there a low-ink / black-and-white version?

Arrr! (Yes!)

Ink is expensive, so the low-ink / black-and-white version uses as little ink as possible while keeping some of the fun art to enjoy.

How do I round Fillayo Fish's power?

Fillayo Fish’s 1-gold power lets you take half damage from the next attack. If you would take 3 damage when using this power, round down to take 1 damage.
